Richard joins Team firefly™

Richard Parks is thrilled to announce a partnership with recovery specialists firefly™ and joins Team firefly™ as an ambassador.  Richard has been using firefly™ devices throughout his preparation for his next world first expedition and they will also be on his kit list for Project X.

As an extreme environment athlete Richard is performing in some of the most hostile conditions on the planet.  Every detail throughout both training and expeditions has to be carefully monitored and planned and Richard’s recovery plays an integral part to success; “Recovery is absolutely pivotal to the success of my performance throughout my expeditions,” he stated.  “I am thrilled to join firefly™, whose products have been part of my recovery system from -30 degrees celsius to + 40 degrees celsius, from 5000m altitude to the depth of the Amazon jungle as well as day to day after heavy training sessions to help me minimise muscle soreness as part of my recovery system.”

Capable of reducing delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) within 24 hours, the firefly™ device increases lower limb blood circulation for the accelerated removal of metabolic waste immediately after high-exertion exercise.

Delivering painless electrical impulses to the common peroneal nerve, the muscle pumps of the lower leg are activated encouraging heightened blood flow and venous return to the heart.

The size of a wrist-watch and worn behind the knee, the firefly™ device is perfect for Richard’s expeditions as it has no wires or leads, he added; “My firefly™ devices travel with me everywhere and are part of my recovery system to help me get the most from body during training, travel and expeditions. Because they’re so light, small and simple to use, whether I’m at home, on a plane or in a tent, I can carry them even in situations when every gram counts.”

Later this month, Richard will take on The Brutal, a double ironman in Snowdonia, Wales.  The Brutal is another step in his preparation towards Project X – a new world first expedition planned for 2014, which is currently under wraps.  Both his preparation and the expedition are being filmed by Channel 5 for a new documentary series.
